Can worms change color?
The color change on the Insta-Worm (it will happen with Worm Goo, too) happens when the temperature of the Insta-Worm reaches a certain temperature (approximately 29º C or 84.2º F). At this temperature, the pigment in the dye reacts by twisting to a new shape, changing the wavelength that it reflects.
Why do worms change Colour?
The dye molecule will sink into the surface pores of the worms, giving them a dyed color. The other way (which is probably the more common way) is for them to ingest the dye by mixing the dye with their bedding and food.
How does a worm change its shape?
In earthworms, each segment can move independently, so that alternating contractions between the two different sets of muscles in many different segments create shape changes all along the body. This produces accordion-like body movements that help the worm push through soil and maneuver through small spaces within.
Why are my worms turning pale?

Now the longitudinal muscles contract and the earthworm becomes shorter and wider or it bends from one side to the other, pulling the body forward.

They have receptor cells in their skin that are sensitive to light and touch. They will move away from light because heat from the sun or a light source will dry out their skin and kill them. How do earthworms breathe?
