Can a bad coil cause a blown fuse?

Can a bad coil cause a blown fuse?

The good news is that there aren’t too many things in the ignition system itself that can blow your fuse, particularly if the the ignition coil draws its current directly from the battery or alternator via a relay. A bad coil might blow fuses, but it’ll more than likely kill the engine before that happens.

Why does my PCM fuse keep blowing?

Check the oxygen sensor wiring for melted wires against the exhaust. If that is ok then unplug the harness on the top of the transmission then see if it blows the fuse. The internal wiring could short against the inside of the pan or the case of the transmission.

Why does car AC fuse keep blowing?

The most logical cause of your air conditioner tripping a breaker or blowing a fuse when it comes on stems from a problem with the electrical connection, the power supply, or the circuit that powers the system. Breakers and fuses are designed to trip or blow when too much voltage is sent through the line.

What happens if a fuse blows in your car?

Usually, a blown fuse just causes a minor car electrical problem, like backup lights or interior lights not working, not being able to use your radio, losing a turn signal, or some of your climate control features not functioning properly. In rare cases, though, a blown fuse can mean that your car won’t start.

Why does my ignition coil keep blowing?

The leading cause of premature failure of an ignition coil is due to a worn or bad spark plug ignition cable. A bad spark plug ignition cable will have a much higher than normal resistance. This excessive voltage creates a high amount of heat which consequently melts the coil’s wire insulation.

What does PCM fuse mean?

A power-train control module, abbreviated PCM, is an automotive component, a control unit, used on motor vehicles. It is generally a combined controller consisting of the engine control unit (ECU) and the transmission control unit (TCU).

What is a TCM fuse?

The TCM fuse is in the main fuse block and is probably 10 amps. If the fuse is blown, that is confirmation but the faulty fuse means there is a short circuit in the TCM and/or wiring that would have to be traced and repaired.

Will a surge protector stop a fuse from blowing?

A surge protector absorbs over-voltages and voltage spikes typically from the electrical utility. A surge will not help the problem when the fuse blows. Once again this is a great product for when the power goes out, but it will not prevent an over-loaded circuit’s fuse from blowing or a circuit breaker from tripping.
