How can you tell if a turn signal bulb is bad?
Symptoms of a Bad or Failing Turn Signal Bulb
- Turn signal indicator in the instrument cluster comes on solid and does not blink.
- Turn signal indicator blinks very fast.
- Both turn light bulbs on the left, or both turn light bulbs on the right, do not blink.

Why is only one of my tail lights working?
If only one of the tail lights appears to be out, the mechanic should check to see if the unlit bulb is burned out. Over time, bulbs will eventually fail and need to be replaced. The mechanic will check the filament in the unlit bulb to see if it is broken. If so, he or she will replace the bad bulb with a new one.
Why are my tail lights not working on my trailer?
If the pin on your vehicle side connector has a constant signal when your tail lights are on, then you know the problem is on the trailer. My first guess would be a poor ground connection somewhere. Be sure you check that the ground connections for the trailer connector and each tail light are mounted on a good clean ground location.
Where do the brake and turn signals go on a trailer?
You should get left turn and brake signals on the yellow wire, right turn and brake signals on the green wire, and running lights on the brown wire. The white wire is the ground wire. If the vehicle signals are all functioning properly at the trailer connector then you will need to figure out which wires go to the correct circuits on the trailer.
Why are my brake lights not working on my tow truck?
Use a circuit tester such as # 40376 to test the vehicle side trailer connector while someone steps on the brakes in the tow vehicle. If there is no power on any of the pins for this test then there is likely a blown or missing tow package, stop light, or CHMSL fuse on the vehicle.
Can a brake light work with a running light on?
Turn signals and brake lights work, running lights don’t. But brake lights don’t work with the running lights turned on. 77448 @GarryR You’ll need to check the wires on the vehicle side and trailer side and look for any pinch points or corrosion. If you find any, replace the wires.
