How old was Theodore Maiman when he invented the laser?
79
Maiman, a physicist who on May 16, 1960, demonstrated the world’s first laser, a device small enough to fit in his hand, died on May 5 in Vancouver, British Columbia. He was 79. The cause was systemic mastocytosis, a rare genetic disorder, his wife, Kathleen, said.

How did Theodore Maiman invent the laser?
By flashing white light into a cylinder of ruby, Maiman energized the electrons in the chromium. The energized green and blue wavelengths were absorbed and then amplified the red wavelengths until the light pulse of the ruby was amplified to high power, resulting in a laser.
Is laser a radiation?
Some lasers emit radiation in the form of light. Others emit radiation that is invisible to the eye, such as ultraviolet or infrared radiation. In general, laser radiation is not in itself harmful, and behaves much like ordinary light in its interaction with the body.

Which laser is a three level system?
Ruby laser works on the principle of a three level system. The pumping power required for such a system is very high because more than half of the ground state atoms have to be pumped into the upper level to achieve population inversion.
What is the pumping source in ruby laser?
In a ruby laser, we use a helical flash lamp filled with xenon is used as a pumping source. The ruby crystal is placed inside a xenon flash lamp. Thus, optical pumping is used to achieve population inversion. The flashtube supplies energy to the laser medium (ruby).
What is laser full form?
Light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation

Can laser pointers blind you?
Can a laser pointer blind me? Laser pointers can put out anywhere between 1 and 5 milliwatts of power, which is enough to damage the retina after 10 seconds of exposure. This can lead to permanent vision loss. That said, it can be very difficult to expose the retina to that much light for that long a time.
Are laser pointers illegal?
In the U.S., it is legal under federal law to own a laser of any power. But often people talk about “illegal laser pointers”. This is somewhat confusing shorthand meaning that the manufacturer or seller illegally called a laser above 5 milliwatts a “pointer”, or illegally promoted it for pointing purposes.
Why are two lasers not possible?
In a simple two-level system, it is not possible to obtain a population inversion with optical pumping because the system can absorb pump light (i.e., gain energy) only as long as population inversion, and thus light amplification, is not achieved.
