Which nebulizer medications can be mixed?
Upon review of DP’s current nebulizer therapies, all medication (albuterol-ipratropium, budesonide, sodium chloride 0.9%) are compatible when mixed together, presenting an opportunity to combine treatments.
Can Pulmicort and Ventolin be mixed?
You can put more than one type of medicine in the nebulizer chamber. For example, you can mix Pulmicort and Ventolin and give them to your child at the same time. You may need to add normal saline to the nebulizer chamber so that there are 4 mL of liquid in total.
What can you not mix albuterol with?
Some of the drugs that could potentially interact with albuterol (although not as seriously as the ones listed above) include:
- Tenormin (atenolol)
- Trandate (labetalol)
- Lopressor, Toprol XL (metoprolol)
- Corgard (nadolol)
- Inderal (propranolol)
- Lanoxin (digoxin)
- Epipen, Primatene Mist (epinephrine)
How often can you nebulizer with Pulmicort?
This dose is given as a single administration, or as two 1 mg doses separated by 30 minutes. Dosing can be repeated every 12 hour for a maximum of 36 hours or until clinical improvement. Pulmicort respules should be administrated from suitable nebulisers.
When do you use Pulmicort nebulizer?
Budesonide is used to control and prevent symptoms (wheezing and shortness of breath) caused by asthma. This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as corticosteroids. It works directly in the lungs to make breathing easier by reducing the irritation and swelling of the airways.
Can you use albuterol inhaler and nebulizer together?
The albuterol inhalation solution (eg, Accuneb®) should be used with a jet nebulizer that is connected to an air compressor with good air flow. The inhalation solution and nebulizer will come with patient instructions. Read and follow these instructions carefully.

No interactions were found between albuterol and Benadryl Allergy. This does not necessarily mean no interactions exist. Always consult your healthcare provider.

Budesonide is used to prevent difficulty breathing, chest tightness, wheezing, and coughing caused by asthma. Budesonide powder for oral inhalation (Pulmicort Flexhaler) is used in adults and children 6 years of age and older.

You may notice a benefit within 2-8 days of starting this drug. It may take up to 4-6 weeks of regular use before the full benefit of this drug takes effect. Tell your doctor if your symptoms do not improve or if they worsen.

Please note, however, that if you mix pulmocort and Atrovent (Ipatropium Bromide) the solvent will bubble and produce little mist. I say this only because many patients use a medicine called Duoneb, which has both Albuterol and Atrovent solvent premixed. Duoneb and Atrovent should NOT be mixed with Pulmicort. I hope this helps.
