How do I know if my choke is open or closed?
When the choke butterfly is allowing the most air flow, without restriction, it is open. Like a door. Open lets things through. when the choke is restricting the flow of air, it is closed.
Which position is choke on?
The choke is located before the throttle, and manages the total amount of air going into the engine. The choke is only used when starting a cold engine. When doing a cold start, the choke should be closed to limit the amount of air going in.
Which way is choke off?
The “choke” is off when the choke lever is down or when the choke lever is facing you if your choke is a handle bar mount. Choke off means that the choke plate is not covering the carb throat.
What happens if choke is left on?
Leaving the choke on for too long will cause unnecessary engine wear and waste fuel. The engine needs its fuel to be vaporised in order to burn it. This is done by the carburettor where the fuel is mixed with clean air coming from the air filter, and sent into the pistons to be ignited.
What is the choke position on a lawn mower?
Choke plate – a control on the carburetor which partially closes off the air intake and forces additional suction to increase the amount of fuel drawn into the cylinder. Normally, the choke is closed when starting cold and gradually opened in the few seconds after the engine starts.
Under which condition is choke is closed?
Once the engine is in use, and naturally warms up, the choke valve can be closed, to reduce additional fuel being used.
How do you use the choke on an ATV?
The lever type choke should be in the down position during normal operation. To use the choke to start a cold engine, lift up on the lever to turn the choke on. Once the engine has warmed up, return the lever to the down position.
How long do you leave the choke on?
After 30 seconds is usually enough for most bikes. Especially a small thumper. Just reduce the choke slowly. If it wont idle smoothly (sounds like an asthmatic pensioner) then it probably wants the choke on a bit longer.
Should choke be open or closed when starting lawn mower?
Normally, the choke is closed when starting cold and gradually opened in the few seconds after the engine starts. It is left fully open once the engine is running and may not need to be closed when starting warm. A typical starting procedure for an engine with a choke might be: Close the choke (usually on carburetor).
What happens if the choke is left on?
What is the choke lever on a motorcycle?
The choke is a mechanical lever which is attached to the lever. The carburetor determines the air fuel ratio mechanically. This ratio will be adjusted by the carburetor with throttle input from the rider. The choke allows you to manually adjust the air fuel ratio by reducing the air flow to the engine.
When is the choke in the ” open ” position?
When the choke is in the “open” position the lever is parallel to the flow of air from the airbox. I would assume open isn’t in active state of choke and would be the position the bike should be in when normally operating.
Where is the choke lever supposed to be?
The choke lever should be at the 3 o’clock position for “on”, at the 6 o’clock position (pointing down) for “off”. Did you find the recommended reading relevant to this discussion?
When does a choke butterfly open or close?
When the choke butterfly is allowing the most air flow, without restriction, it is open. Like a door. Open lets things through. when the choke is restricting the flow of air, it is closed. Like a door. I never understand why there is any disagreement. If you look at the butterfly, closed and open seem obvious.
What’s the difference between an on and off choke?
Jayelwin – If this helps think of it as on and off rather than open and closed. When the choke is “on” it is restricting air to the carb, the whole purpose of the choke. Like choking someone with your hands “on” their neck which would prevent them from getting air. Hands “off” would allow them to get air.
