Some drugs or herbal products that may decrease the effectiveness of hormonal contraceptives include:

If you got your second shot on time, it will start working right away — so there’s no need to wait to have sex. You only have to wait the week after your first birth control shot. As long as you get your shots on time (every 12-13 weeks), you’ll always be protected.
How can I reduce the side effects of Depo-Provera?
Certain medication may help to stop the bleeding and spotting side effects of the birth control shot. However, there is no evidence to support routine use of this type of treatment. The first option your doctor might suggest is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), such as ibuprofen (Advil).

People who use the shot may have a temporary loss of bone density but the bone loss is largely reversible once the method is stopped. Calcium (1200 mg/day) and vitamin D supplements are recommended while using the shot.

How much ibuprofen should I take to stop Depo bleeding?
If estrogen is contraindicated, patients are given 800 mg of ibuprofen 3 times a day for 5 days. In all cases of heavy bleeding apparently related to Depo-Provera use, other causes (e.g., cervical malignancy, uterine fibroids, sexually transmitted diseases) should be ruled out before treatment is initiated.
