Where should you place the pediatric AED pads for a child?
Apply the pads (Figure 12d).
- Apply one pad on the upper right chest above the breast. For infants, apply on the front of the chest.
- Apply the second pad on the lower left chest below the armpit. For infants, apply a second pad to the back (Figure 12e).
When placing the AED Paediatric pads on a child less than 8 years of age the pads should be placed?
Ideally, for those under 8 years paediatric pads and an AED with a paediatric capability should be used. These pads are placed use the front-back position (antero-posterior): one pad placed on the upper back (between the shoulder blades) and the other pad on the front of the chest, as per Figure 2.
Can you put AED pads on the back?
Place one AED pad directly below the right collarbone. Place the other pad to the side of the left nipple, with the top edge of the pad a few inches below the armpit. As shown in Figure 26B, one pad will be placed on the victim’s bare chest (anterior), and the other will be placed on the victim’s back (posterior).
When do you use pediatric paddles?
It is most appropriate to use a smaller “pediatric” sized paddles for shock delivery during manual defibrillation of pediatric patients if the patient weighs less than approximately 10kg or is less than 1 years of age.
Why is AED pad placement important?
An AED delivers a shock to a victim using two pads placed directly onto the victim’s chest. The positioning of these pads is important, as the electrical shock needs to travel through the heart muscle. As the diagram shows, this allows the electrical shock to travel through the victim’s heart.
What is important to remember about AED pad placement on infants *?
Apply one pad to the front of the chest and the other to the child’s back so that the pads do not come into contact with one another. Once the pads are attached, follow the instructions given by the AED. Remember, without prompt treatment (CPR and defibrillation), sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is always fatal.
Why are AED pads placed?
Where do you place the AED pads on a child if they are at risk of touching each other?
If it looks like the pads will touch, put one pad in the center of the baby’s chest. Put the other pad on the center of the baby’s upper back. You may need to first dry the baby’s back. Don’t touch the baby while the AED checks the baby’s heart rhythm.
When do you remove AED pads from a victim?
(Fully automatic AED will shock the victim automatically) Immediately following the shock, begin 2 minutes of CPR as instructed by the AED. Note: Do not remove the AED chest pads while performing CPR.
What age are pediatric AED pads for?
AEDs may be used for children 1 to 8 years of age with no signs of circulation. Ideally the device should deliver a pediatric dose.
What is the difference between adult and pediatric AED pads?
While all AEDS are made for adults, there are pediatric pads that adjust the energy level used. These pads are for younger children (less than 8 years). You can use adult pads for children 8 years and older.
