What are the symptoms of a bad mass air flow?
Here are some of the most common symptoms of a faulty mass airflow sensor:
- The engine is very hard to start or turn over.
- The engine stalls shortly after starting.
- The engine hesitates or drags while under load or idle.
- Hesitation and jerking during acceleration.
- The engine hiccups.
- Excessively rich or lean idling.
Will my check engine light come on if my mass air flow sensor is bad?
A check engine light often comes on due to a dirty airflow sensor (MAS). When a vehicle’s mass airflow sensor is faulty or defective it can cause a variety of problems, and usually results in very poor performance from your engine.
How does the MAF sensor work on a Ford Expedition?
A MAF sensor measures the density of the air entering the intake manifold. It passes this information onto your Expedition ‘s ECU. The ECU uses this information along with other sensor data to control the amount of fuel that enters the combustion chamber. If you do determine that you need a new mass airflow sensor, they aren’t too expensive.
What does p0102 stand for in MAF sensor?
P0102: Mass Air Flow (MAF) Circuit Low Input. P0103: Mass Air Flow (MAF) Circuit High Input. MAF sensor malfunction that DOES NOT light up the check engine light (CEL). Lean and/or Rich code (s). Fuel Trim code (s). A tremendous lack of power upon acceleration. Black smoke coming from the tail-pipe. Bad gas mileage.
What is the MAF code on a Ford?
This list covers the majority of symptoms I’ve seen on these types of Ford mass air flow sensors: MAF Codes that light up the check engine light (CEL) on your instrument cluster. P0102: Mass Air Flow (MAF) Circuit Low Input.
What happens when air enters the mass air flow sensor?
Air entering after the mass air flow sensor into the engine will negatively impact fuel injection. And will skew the results of your tests which could result in the replacement of a good MAF (and in the process throwing money away). How do you check for air leaks?
