What does Clearcast do?

Clearcast is a non-governmental organisation which pre-approves most British television advertising. It came into being on 1 January 2008 and took over the responsibilities of the Broadcast Advertising Clearance Centre.

How long does clearcast approval last?

2-3 weeks

When was the first ad created?

The first advert itself was broadcast in the US on July 1, 1941 over the New York station WNBT – which is still going as WNBC, ‘channel four. ‘ The advert was for watchmaker Bulova, and was shown before a baseball game between the Brooklyn Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies.

Does VoD need clearcast?

Whilst VoD advertising does not have to be precleared in the way that linear TV advertising does, ITV, Channel 4 and Sky ask agencies to submit their VoD ads to Clearcast for us to advise on (Turner, our other shareholder, doesn’t currently have a VoD service as such).

How do I get clearcast approval?

Sky AdSmart is a service that allows us to tailor the advertising we present to you when watching content on Sky. For example, if you already have Sky Broadband, we’ll make sure we don’t show you a TV advert for it.
