Can you drive without an EGR sensor?
As per my research and going through the threads on EGR valves its OK to run without EGR. Yes it might affect the environment but no harm to engine as such. there are people who are running without EGR for more than 50k km.
What happens when EGR solenoid goes bad?
If the EGR solenoid fails it can disable the EGR system from recirculating exhaust gases. For certain engines this can cause a large increase in cylinder and exhaust gas temperatures. Excessively high cylinder temperatures can cause engine ping and knock, which can lead to serious engine damage if left unattended.
Can a bad EGR valve cause engine damage?
Faulty EGR solenoid One of the most significant parts of the EGR system is the EGR solenoid. A faulty EGR valve can damage the EGR solenoid that can, in turn, cause performance issues of the engine. The engine check light would turn on then, and then the engine might knock and ping.
What are the signs of a faulty EGR position sensor?
Symptoms of a Bad or Failing EGR Temperature Sensor Engine ping or knock One of the first symptoms commonly associated with a bad or failing EGR temperature sensor is engine ping or knock. Check Engine Light comes on Another symptom of a bad or failing EGR temperature sensor is a Check Engine Light. Failed emissions test
Where is the EGR sensor located?
The EGR pressure sensor is located within inches of the EGR valve. The exact location varies depending on the engine (2.5L, 3.0L or 4.0L). It is usually attached to the upper intake manifold with two small bolts.
What is an EGR temp sensor?
EGR Temperature Sensor. An exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) temperature sensor is an electrical sensing probe that monitors EGR gas temperature and transmits the signal to the engine control computer.
What is EGR problem?
The EGR system works by recirculating a portion of the exhaust gas off the engine back to the engines cylinders. Modern engines require an EGR system to reduce the amount of emission and meet government standards. Problems with the EGR valve often include a leaking or clogged valve.
