Why does my car run bad when it warms up?

Why does my car run bad when it warms up?

It may be getting too much fuel once it’s warmed up. An engine needs more fuel when it’s cold than it does when it’s warm. A choke plate closes-off the air going into the carb which makes the fuel mixture really rich so it can run. Less air = more fuel.

Why does my truck cut out when I give it gas?

Your fuel pump takes the gasoline out of the gas tank and pushes it through to the fuel injectors. If the fuel pump is overheating or malfunctioning, it may either push too much gas through or not enough. Either way, your engine will cut out. If it isn’t getting enough gas, it will stall due to fuel starvation.

Can a coil fail when hot?

The car now has thousands of miles on it and has never shut down again, so yes, a coil can stop working when it gets hot.

Can low compression cause overheating?

If you have low compression in all cylinders, this is often the culprit. Exhaust valves and air intake valves at the top of the cylinder can also get overheated, and leak gas or the valve seals can become too worn to seal the gas in properly. Either way, the result is often low compression.

Why does my car run sluggish?

The most probable issue is a clogged fuel filter. Over time, the fuel filter might need cleaning and maintenance to get debris and dirt out. When your fuel filter is clogged, your fuel pump needs to work harder to get fuel into the system, resulting in a slow insufficient drive.

Why does my car quit running when the temperature is up?

(From: Wild Bill ([email protected]).) There can be numerous reasons for the engine to quit running when it gets up to operating temperature.. expansion of metal parts where bolts/screws aren’t tight enough, breakdown of the condenser for the ignition points (if equipped), or a possibility of a crack somewhere.

Why does my engine not start when it’s Hot?

If the engine is just failing to fire the spark plug when it’s hot, there’s a good chance that it’s time to change the (points and) condenser.

What causes the crank position sensor to fail?

If you have a bad component that may have a bad internal connection, the increase in temperature could cause a voltage drop in the component. Also, heat can cause a crank position sensor to act up if it is starting to fail.
