Q. Can I use my Medicaid coverage in any state? A: No. Because each state has its own Medicaid eligibility requirements, you can’t just transfer coverage from one state to another, nor can you use your coverage when you’re temporarily visiting another state, unless you need emergency health care.

How do I transfer my benefits from one state to another?
Contact your local SNAP office. Call the office and explain that you are moving to a different state and want to close your case. Follow their instructions so your case is closed properly. If your case isn’t closed in your old state, it may be difficult to get benefits in your new state.
