Do graded cards sell for more?
Much to the surprise of novice collectors, getting cards graded does not always increase their value. In fact, most cards, once graded, will return less than if they were sold raw.
What does authentic mean in card grading?
The “Authentic” label means that the item, in our opinion, is real but nothing more. AA Authentic Altered – This means that while PSA is certifying that the item is genuine, due to the existence of alterations, the item cannot receive a numerical grade.
Does grading a card increase value?
Grading is an expense, and you may actually end up with cards that sell for the same or even less than if they were sold ungraded. Just because the card is in a plastic slab with a numerical grade does not automatically increase its value. This card is not gradable because it won’t add to the value of the card.
How much does it cost to authenticate Pokemon cards?
Grading a single Pokemon card costs a minimum of $18 to $35. Becket Grading Services (BGS) charge $20/card for economy service with no sub-grading, or $35/card for economy service with sub-grades. Meanwhile, the Certified Guaranty Company (CGC) charges $18/card for standard economy service.
Why is PSA so expensive?
PSA, the leader in card grading, dramatically changed its prices on Monday as the uptick in the industry left the company with a backlog of an untold millions of cards. Pricing in most areas has doubled. The lowest level, with the slowest service, goes from $10 a card to $20 a card and imposes a 10-card minimum.
How do I know if my cards are worth grading?
Simply put: the higher the grade, the better it sells! If you pull a low numbered parallel of one of the game’s hottest players, that’s great. Getting it graded and having it come back as a 9.5 or 10 is even better.
Why are graded cards worth more?
The reason that some graded cards sell for more is that the professional graders grade harder than we collectors did 20 years ago. They tend to be very critical of flaws. It is very common for people to send a card off to be graded that the owner feels is in NEAR MINT condition and have it come back graded EXCELLENT!

Is PSA grading worth it?
Regardless if you’re talking counterfeits or reprints, PSA card grading services can be an excellent tool to verify a card’s authenticity. That’s not to say that PSA is correct 100% of the time and fakes don’t occasionally slip through their hands.
