What age does Nippers go up to?

Any child, aged between 5 and 14, may join Nippers. They do NOT have to be super competitors or super athletes. The emphasis is on skill development and FUN! One of the best features of Nippers is seeing young children overcome their fear of the water.

How do you join Nippers?

You can join online and come to the first nipper activity day to purchase swimmers and ask questions. If you miss this day it doesn’t matter, we can still take online registration at any time during the season, or come down and have a look and a trial. Register online – http://sls.com.au/join.

Nippers is a fun activity based program run to educate children between the ages of 5 and 13 about surf safety and awareness at the beach. Whilst at Nippers your child will not only be having fun and making new friends, they will also be challenged with activities in a controlled environment.

Nippers are young surf lifesavers, usually aged between 5 and 14 years old, in clubs across Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Unlike senior surf lifesavers, the majority of them do not patrol the beaches. The focus for Nippers tends to be on fun, and surf awareness. Nippers learn about safety at the beach.

Do you have to be able to swim to join nippers?

Does my child have to be able to swim to join? It certainly helps. Your child will need to complete a Preliminary Skills Assessment including a swim and a float which clubs will conduct either at the beach or in a pool environment.

Nippers are young surf lifesavers, usually aged between 5 and 14 years old, in clubs across Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Like their Senior counterparts, Nippers participate in regular competition against other Surf Lifesaving Clubs, at sports carnivals.

What do you wear to nippers?

What do we need for nippers sessions? Please make sure children attending each session are wearing bathers, club lifesaving cap, pink vest, rash vest, broad brim sun hat and sunscreen applied.
