What does nervous tissue make?

Nervous tissue makes up the nervous system. The nervous system is subdivided in several overlapping ways. The central nervous system (CNS) is composed of the brain and spinal cord, which coordinates information from all areas of the body and sends nerve impulses that control all bodily movements.

What do nerve cells create?

Nerve cells generate electrical signals that transmit information. Although neurons are not intrinsically good conductors of electricity, they have evolved elaborate mechanisms for generating electrical signals based on the flow of ions across their plasma membranes.

What types of tissues make up the nerves?

The nervous system consists of nervous tissue, which is composed of two principal types of cells called neuron and neuroglia.

What is a neuron made of?

Neurons have three basic parts: a cell body and two extensions called an axon (5) and a dendrite (3). Within the cell body is a nucleus (2), which controls the cell’s activities and contains the cell’s genetic material. The axon looks like a long tail and transmits messages from the cell.

Are nerves made of neurons?

A nerve is a bundle of fibers that receives and sends messages between the body and the brain. The messages are sent by chemical and electrical changes in the cells, technically called neurons, that make up the nerves.

Do neurons make up nerves?

Together with their support cells, neuroglia, neurons make up all nervous system tissue. They receive and relay messages quickly, conducting them as electrical signals. Specialized neurons in the spinal cord form neural tracts that speed messages to and from the brain.

What is nerve supply?

Sympathetic nerves. The nerve supply to the pelvis is autonomic. Sympathetic nerves from the inferior hypogastric plexus (T10–L1) supply the uterus and cervix. Labour pains are therefore referred to areas of skin supplied by these nerves, e.g. lumbo-sacral region, lower abdomen and loins.
