What happens if speakers are too close together?
If your speakers are too close, sounds will blend together and become muddy. If they are too far apart, there will be a gap between the two halves of the stereo image (more on this later). Speaker height. Position your speakers so that the tweeters are at roughly the same height as your ears.
How wide should stereo speakers be apart?
You should avoid setting the speakers farther apart than the distance from each speaker to the listening position. I recommend that you place the speakers at least 7 feet apart for any listening position that will be 10 to 12 feet from the screen of a one-piece television and no more than 10 feet apart.
Can you put speakers right next to each other?
We’ll start with the things you should avoid when placing your speakers. Don’t place stereo speakers too near the front wall (the wall behind the speakers). Don’t orient the speakers so that they’re completely parallel to each other. While this may look good for appearance, it won’t let your system sound its best.

The front left and right speakers should be placed about 3 to 4 feet away on either side of the display screen or TV. They should face the viewers pointing towards the center of the room.
Do speakers need toe in?
Speaker toe-in has a significant effect on the sound – in terms of soundstaging, imaging and tonal balance – and we think it is important to understand some of the facts and data behind why the sound changes when you alter speaker toe. More toe-in reduces the level of early reflected sounds from the lateral side walls.
Should speakers be angled?
Speaker angles Positioning the speakers at a 60-degree angle gives you the best ‘stereo image’ of these sounds. Dust off your old protractor and position the speakers 60 degrees apart. It can help to place a small marker at your listening position and work it out from there.
How close can rear speakers be?
Rear speakers can sit back 6-10ft from the listener with the tweeter placed at least 2ft above the listener’s ear. Ideally, the speaker will be placed at least 2ft away from the surface behind it, or you can use wall-mounted speakers- in either case, angled between 135-150° from the room’s center.

Can a hifi speaker be moved closer to the wall?
On the contrary, if the bass level proves to be insufficient, it is possible to move the stereo speakers closer to the walls to adjust the bass level (fig. C). Hifi speaker behaviour depends on the acoustics of the listening space, correct positioning of the speakers in the latter and the position of the listener.
Is it bad to put speakers in the corners of a room?
Avoid placing the speakers too close to the room’s corners or walls. This will induce some unwanted room resonance and artificially increase bass response.
What’s the best way to position my speakers?
Placing your speakers close to the back wall will give you more bass, while putting them further away will decrease the low end you hear but should offer more convincing stereo imaging.
How far can right and left speakers be apart?
Depends on the room and the listening distance. Ideally you want the speakers the same distance apart as you are from the speakers.
