What happens to water when it evaporates?
Evaporation happens when a liquid substance becomes a gas. When water is heated, it evaporates. The molecules move and vibrate so quickly that they escape into the atmosphere as molecules of water vapor. Evaporation is a very important part of the water cycle.
Do you think the water still exists after it evaporates?
When water evaporates, where do the water molecules go? Make it clear that, although you can’t see the water anymore after it has dried up or evaporated, it still exists. The water molecules separate and are in the air as a gas called water vapor.
What caused the water to disappear?
In nature, the energy, or heat of the sun causes water to evaporate into its gaseous, or vapor, phase. Likewise, when we boil water over a burner we are causing it to change from a liquid to a gas. The process by which a substance changes from a liquid to a gas is called evaporation.
What would happen if all evaporation in the water cycle stopped?
The water cycle brings water to everywhere on land, and is the reason that we have rain, snow, streams, and all other kinds of precipitation. Stopping it would cause an endless drought. No water flow in lakes would cause overgrowth, killing many species of fish and other lake wildlife.
What is evaporation of water?
Evaporation happens when a liquid turns into a gas. When liquid water reaches a low enough temperature, it freezes and becomes a solid—ice. When solid water is exposed to enough heat, it will melt and return to a liquid. As that liquid water is further heated, it evaporates and becomes a gas—water vapor.
Why do you think any water at all evaporates from the paper on the room temperature bag?
Any sample of water, even a drop or less, is made up of an enormous number of water molecules. Some of the water molecules are moving fast enough to break away from the rest of the water and go up into the air. That’s why there is more evaporation from the paper on the hot water than on the colder water.
What happens when there is no water?
With no water supply, all vegetation would soon die out and the world would resemble a brownish dot, rather than a green and blue one. Clouds would cease to formulate and precipitation would stop as a necessary consequence, meaning that the weather would be dictated almost entirely by wind patterns.
Is it possible for the water cycle to stop?
The water cycle is a way that water moves all around the Earth. It never stops and doesn’t really have a beginning or an end. Some water on the surface of the ocean will evaporate due to heat from the sun. When it evaporates it turns into vapor water and goes up into the atmosphere.
Is evaporation a loss?
The net loss of water molecules from the water body causes the “loss” of water due to evaporation. This in turn is gain of water in its gaseous state by the atmosphere. During the process of ejection of water molecules and its rejoining back the water body it interacts with the atmospheric losses.
