What is DMR used for?
Digital Mobile Radio or DMR for short is an open standard or protocol for digital mobile radios defined by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) and are used in commercial products around the world. DMR was designed to allow for more bandwidth on a particular frequency.

How does a DMR work?
DMR digital mobile radio uses a 2 channel TDMA, time division multiple access scheme. The transmission is split into various blocks: Burst: Each transmission burst is nominally 30 ms long and this consists of one TDMA element. Each burst can either be for one TDMA channel or the other.

Can DMR talk to GMRS?
Part 90 certified radios are still not officially legal to transmit with on GMRS, even though the FCC acknowledged that many people use them for such. This does NOT mean you can use DMR or P25 (or any other digital voice encoding) on FRS or GMRS.
