Why did Aqua split up?
Rumor has it that the band’s split actually came about because of a love triangle. Lead singer Lene Nystrøm (“Barbie”) allegedly hooked up briefly with bandmate René Dif (“Ken”), then she cheated on him with their bandmate, Søren Rasted (keyboardist).

After the breakup of Aqua, Nystrøm continued as a soloist. In 2003, she released her first album Play with Me. It marked a change in her musical style, from the bubblegum sound of Aqua to a more R&B-influenced style.

So what happened to the band? Lene married Soren in 2001 in Las Vegas. They have two children and she still seems to be on the music scene. Rene Dif, the slightly pervy Ken to Rene’s Barbie is now married to a health coach and has a daughter named Mabel.

Despite this, the band remained close to make music and in 2007 Aqua went on a reunion tour. In 2011, the band released their third album called Megalomania – but they never made their comeback.
