When I turn my key in the ignition nothing happens?
If nothing happens when you turn the ignition key to the “Start” position, it means that the starter motor doesn’t turn over the engine. Most commonly this could be caused by a dead battery; read above How to check the battery. The starter solenoid control wire could have a bad connection.
Why will my tractor not turn over?
The most common cause for the engine not turning over is simply the battery. Either the battery itself is dead, the terminals are corroded so the current can’t travel through them, or the battery cables themselves are damaged. Inspect your battery terminals and cables, and test the battery.

How many volts should a tractor alternator put out?
With the engine running at idle, the voltage at the battery or alternator output terminal(s) should be between 13.8 and 14.4V (using the DC test function on the multimeter). Turning on headlights (or spotlights) should not vary this reading too much. Below 13.7V your battery will charge slowly or, perhaps, not at all.
