Where did the planets come from in the first place?
The various planets are thought to have formed from the solar nebula, the disc-shaped cloud of gas and dust left over from the Sun’s formation. The currently accepted method by which the planets formed is accretion, in which the planets began as dust grains in orbit around the central protostar.
How are planets born?
Planets emerge from the dense disk of gas and dust encircling young stars. They emerge from the giant, donut-shaped disk of gas and dust that circles young stars. Gravity and other forces cause material within the disk to collide. If the collision is gentle enough, the material fuses, growing like rolling snowballs.
Which planets were formed first?
We don’t know the exact order of all the planets, but Jupiter formed first, with Saturn close behind. Both were finished in less than 3 million years. The inner planets (Mercury, Venus , Earth, Mars) got off to a late start. Mars finished forming in about 10 million years.
Did God create planets?
God did not tell us why he created planets. Planets are the natural result of gravity acting on the matter in the universe which God created. If we assume that God had a “purpose” in creating a universe with planets, then the most obvious purpose is to provide a place where life can exist.
How are the inner planets formed?
The inner planets formed from the accumulation of rocky particles and the outer from the accretion of icy matter. The inner planets retained smaller, denser cores whereas the outer planets possessed larger cores containing little metal or rock.
When did the first planets form?
The first planets may have formed around 14 billion years ago, but not all planets formed then. The planets that go around our Sun, including Earth, probably formed only around 4.5 billion years ago, and new planets are still forming today around other stars.
