Why line choke is used?

Why line choke is used?

A choke (or line reactor) is a coil of wire around a magnetic core that creates a magnetic field when current flows through it. This magnetic field increases the impedance of the line and reduces the total harmonic content injected from the drive onto the facilities electrical system.

Why choke is used in drive?

Its purpose is to reduce the current peaks that occur at the drive output due to pulse-width modulation (PWM) of the voltage. Without a motor choke, long cable lengths can lead to reflected waves, which cause voltage spikes at the motor.

What is the use of output choke?

Output choke help to reduce this peak voltage, and increase the rise time, to reduce the stress applied to the motor insulation and prevent damages. Output choke may be used to protect variable frequency drives and motors.

What is the use of input choke in VFD?

Input chokes can be used to reduce the supply line harmonic currents and voltage distortion generated by almost all inverter drives on the market today.

What is the working principle of choke?

Hint: A choke coil works by the principle of self induction. Its main function is to provide AC resistance to the circuit. At the same time, it does not allow any resistance to the DC current.

What is a choke line?

1. n. [Drilling] A high-pressure pipe leading from an outlet on the BOP stack to the backpressure choke and associated manifold. During well-control operations, the fluid under pressure in the wellbore flows out of the well through the choke line to the choke, reducing the fluid pressure to atmospheric pressure.

What is use of choke for motor?

In an internal combustion engine, a choke valve modifies the air pressure in the intake manifold, thereby altering the ratio of fuel and air quantity entering the engine. Choke valves are generally used in naturally aspirated engines with carburetors to supply a richer fuel mixture when starting the engine.

What is the working principle of VFD?

VFDs manipulate the frequency of their output by rectifying an incoming AC current into DC, and then using voltage pulse-width modulation to recreate an AC current and voltage output waveform. However, this frequency conversion process causes 2% to 3% loss as heat in the VFD — caloric energy that must be dissipated.

What is a mains choke?

The mains choke. prevents impermissible loading of semiconductors in the event of rapid current rise during commutation. prevents voltage dips in the mains voltage caused by commutation. reduces current ripple in the DC link, thereby increasing the service life of the DC link capacitors.

What is the use of choke what are its advantages?

If you use a common mode choke, it can attenuate the unwanted high frequency signals, while you would get better efficiency for knocking down the unwanted noise, and allowing your required signal to pass. Also common mode chokes can operate at a high current with high inductance values.

How does a line choke work?

What are the chokes in a tube light?

Purpose of Chokes in Tube Light? Electrical choke is nothing but an inductor which is connected in series with vapor lights. i.e electrical choke is mostly used in mercury vapor lights, sodium vapor lights, tube light fitting, CFL bulbs (Compact florescent lights) etc. Let see the purpose of electrical chokes in these lights.

Why is a choke filter used in AC?

The reason behind this is that capacitor allow AC and block DC. Choke filter came into existence due to shortcomings of the series inductor and shunt capacitor filter. A series inductor filter filters the output current but reduces the output current (RMS value and Peak value) up to a large extent.

Why is a choke filter called an L section filter?

It is also called L-section filter because the inductor and capacitor are connected in the shape of inverted L. The output pulsating DC voltage from a rectifier circuit passes through the inductor or choke coil. The inductor has low DC resistance and extremely high AC reactance.

Why is a choke used in a circuit?

Usually, choke means an inductor which is used to block high frequency AC and allows low frequency DC. The name is actually derived from the function of inductor: choking high frequencies. The above is a picture of a choke coil.
